The Silicon Biomagnets L.A.M. ® are devices that operate according to the principles of passive RFID electronic technology. This technology allows the device to recognize frequencies it has been calibrated for, so that it can function permanently without a direct power source. Before I delve into their operation, I will refer to techniques already used in the aerospace industry, and for some years now in the automotive industry, to achieve an active reduction of noise disturbance within cabins. The most common way to reduce engine noise and that of other components inside a car’s cabin is to passively filter it through materials with sound-absorbing capacity. However, this process has its limits, as the noise filtering is not selective and usually concerns a continuous spectrum of frequencies, and these materials have significant weight and bulk. The technology of active noise reduction, on the other hand, utilizes the physical principle that two waves of the same frequency, but with inverse phase, cancel each other out, creating silence.
